Cupola

Cupolas…designed to admit light and fresh air, are so called because they look like an upside down drinking cup. They are slowly disappearing along with the red barns that were once such a great part of American history…and if you please, they are Not Junk. Smile.  There are different varieties, all painstaking made by hand.  The zinc-covered steel ones were hand soldered, no screws, no bolts, no spot welding.  Truly a piece of art. Some were made of wood, and often there is a weather vane on top…or a lightening rod.  Next time you see one, remember that American history , like the family farms are soon extinct and will be a great loss.
