You now see them…mostly white, a few pink.  They are a zone 5 tree and need protection…from the winter wind and then the spring cold…and even the squirrels who love the soft buds. The buds are like pussy willows, soft, fuzzy and oh, so tempting.  I have wrapped them in burlap for several years and that has helped.  This year I was worried about the drop in temp just as they were swelling and ready to burst.  It was a dilemma – wrap more tightly or pray. Smile.  They survived and they are now blooming…not so much as in recent years…a beautiful white flower to show off for Mother’s Day!
